Valet Self-Storage Operator Livible Inc. Launches Label App, Announces Partnership With Extra Space Storage

Livible Inc., a Seattle-based business specializing in valet self-storage services, has launched a mobile app that enables customers to print coded labels that will help them manage the contents of their stored boxes. As part of the launch, the company announced self-storage real estate investment trust (REIT) Extra Space Storage Inc. as its national retail partner and included a feature in the Livible Labels app that shows customers their nearest Extra Space location, according to a press release.

The app is available on Android and Apple devices. Users can download and print two free labels to try out the service. They may also use a Web-based version to receive the free labels, according to the release.

Once printed, the labels can be affixed to the outside of any container. Customers can manage the labels by taking pictures of box contents and adding details about the items stored inside and the whereabouts of each bin. When items need to be retrieved, customers can use the app to search by item, finding the box and its location, or scan a label’s quick-response code to see what’s inside a box without opening it, the release stated. Customers can purchase additional labels through the app and print them out for immediate use.

“We all have personal items stored in cardboard and plastic boxes, from holiday decorations to tax records, summer clothes and keepsakes,” said Terry Drayton, founder and CEO of Livible. “The boxes are in our attics, basements, crawlspaces, garages and self-storage facilities. When you need a specific item, it’s frustrating and time-consuming trying to figure out which box you stored it in or where you put it. The Livible Labels app eliminates that headache.”

The app’s Extra Space locator includes maps and driving directions. Through its partnership, the REIT will also sell preprinted labels at its locations nationwide. A pack of 20 labels retails for $9.99. Some Extra Space customers will receive free labels as an introduction to the service, according to the release.

“We’re always looking for new products and services that make storage easier and more convenient for our customers,” said Jan Pretorius, senior director of business development for Extra Space. “We think that the Livible Labels app has potential to do that.”

Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Extra Space owns or operates 1,335 self-storage properties in 36 states; Washington, D.C.; and Puerto Rico. The company’s properties comprise approximately 885,000 units and 99.8 million square feet of rentable space.

Formerly known as Storrage Inc., Livible changed its name last September. The rebranding coincided with an escalation of service offerings, expansion of its pickup and delivery services to Portland, Ore., and the announcement of a national rollout plan. The company currently provides valet-storage services in Seattle and Portland, including pickup and delivery at Extra Space locations, according to the release.
