Thieves Break Into NY Self-Storage Facility 3 Times in 2 Weeks

A self-storage facility in Flanders, N.Y., has been burglarized three times within a few weeks. A tenant at Peconic Mini Storage told police between Sept. 26 and Oct. 1 someone cut the lock from his trailer and stole several tools including a table saw and drill, all valued at more than $1,000. The missing tools have the owners initials.

Police said the facility had another break-in between Sept. 17 and Sept. 21 in which the windows of three taxis stored at the facility were broken. GPS systems and car batteries were taken from the vehicles, owned by Sams Taxi. Another tenant reported nearly $3,000 worth of landscaping tools stolen from his rented unit on Sept. 19.

Entrance to the storage facility is through a code-activated gate. Facility employees leave the premises at 5 p.m., but tenants have access to the facility until 8 p.m. Police said the three break-ins could be related.
