Print, a national facility-locator service, and, an industry website, banded with several Texas-based self-storage facilities to send Texas A&M student Charles Jordan Farrar to the 2007 ING New York City Marathon in November. Running in support of New York-based The Armory Track and Field Foundation, Farrar raised more than $2,500 and completed the race with a personal-best running time.
Facilities supporting Farrar included All Seasons Storage Centers of College Station, Houston, Sugar Land and Temple; All Star Self Storage of Killeen; and Hide-A-Way Mini Storage of Tomball.
The Nov. 4 event drew a record-breaking 39,085 participants who ran along a 26.2 mile route through five boroughs, beginning on Staten Island and culminating in Central Park. Winning in the women’s division was Paula Radcliffe of Great Britain, with a running time of 2:23:09. The men’s division winner was Martin Kel of Kenya, with a 2:09:04 running time.
This year’s marathon was marred by the death of 28-year-old Ryan Shay, who fell while competing for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials on mile 5 the day before the race.
