Niagara Falls, NY, to Consider Self-Storage Zoning Amendment

Officials in Niagara Falls, New York, are considering an amendment to the town’s zoning code that’ll ban self-storage development from commercial areas. The move will correct an oversight that allowed storage to be built outside of industrial zones, according to the source.

Though the board considered creating a moratorium on self-storage development, town attorney Corey Auerbach suggested a revision to the code would be quicker. It’ll remove the business type from the B-1 zoning and won’t require the extra steps of a moratorium, such as forming a committee to study the impact of self-storage on the community, the source reported.

The town doesn’t currently have any active proposals for self-storage. The board is expected to set an October public hearing to discuss the matter. An environmental-quality review would also need to be completed before the board can vote on the measure.
