The Self-Storage WOW Gallery: See Facility Design Transformed Through Color, Architecture and Innovative Materials
Building Self-Storage on Unusual or Challenging Parcel Shapes
Sometimes you have to fit your dream project on an odd-shaped parcel of land. This was the case for West Coast Self Storage in Costa Mesa, Calif. Situated on a skinny parcel of just 1 acre, the facility features a three-story building on one side of the drive aisle and a single-story, drive-up building on the other to improve project efficiency. The second and third floors, accessed by two elevators, have glass storefronts to show off the facility’s bright blue roll-up doors and the abundance of retail products sold inside the 900-square-foot office.
Interesting note: The city’s zoning department required the developer to add retail space to the storefront. The 1,000-square-foot space, which is leased on a four-year term, provides yet another attractive retail frontage use.
