Collecting That Self-Storage Rent
The collection of rent is a critical task shared by all self-storage managers, regardless of their location or the size of their operation. During one of the seminars presented on the opening day of the ISS Expo in Las Vegas, Bob Copper taught attendees how to "Master the Art of Self-Storage Collections." According to Copper, most managers are not given the tools they need to effectively collect rent. Few have a talent for collecting money, he said, so it's important that facility owners teach employees the skills they need to understand business revenue and create a successful collections system.
Copper is the president of Self Storage 101 and a frequent ISS Expo. In this image, he's explaining the three primary sources of self-storage business revenue: rental income, fees and ancillary income. Later in the show, Copper presented a new Owner/Operator Executive Workshop to teach owner/operators and multi-site managers professional operational procedures and profitable policies.
