Hong Kong Self-Storage Operator The Store House Recognized as ‘Caring Company’

The Store House, which operates four self-storage facilities in Hong Kong, has been recognized as a “Caring Company” by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) for its participation in The Salvation Army’s “Share the Joy Christmas Appeal” program in December as well as its commitment to other corporate social-responsibility initiatives. The holiday drive raised money and collected toys for children of low-income families, according to The Salvation Army website.

The HKCSS is a federation representing non-governmental organizations that provide social-welfare services. Launched in 2002, the “Caring Company” initiative is designed to foster strategic partnerships between businesses and the social-service sector to “promote good corporate citizenship and create a more inclusive society,” according to a press release.

In addition to the Christmas initiative, The Store House recently partnered with The Green Earth, a charity that collects clothes, handbags, hats, scarves and shoes for families in need. In June, the self-storage operator set up a collection bin at its Western District facility. Some donations will be given directly to families, while others will be sold in second-hand markets, with the proceeds benefiting environmental programs, the release stated.

“This is the first time we are embarking on a sustainability initiative in Hong Kong,” said Helen Ng, CEO of The Store House and Singapore-based parent company General Storage Co. Pte. Ltd. “In December, we partnered with The Salvation Army on their Christmas outreach. The two initiatives reflect our commitment to being a ‘Caring Company.’”

General Storage operates 16 self-storage locations under the Lock+Store brand in Malaysia and Singapore as well as the four The Store House sites in Hong Kong. The organization also provides warehousing, offices and postal services.
