Self-storage operator FreeUp Storage, which is operated by privately held real estate investment firm Spartan Investment Group LLC, has hired Derrick Harris as vice president of operations and Melissa Robbins as vice president of marketing, according to a press release.

In his role, Harris will continue the growth of the company’s infrastructure across various business units. He’ll also review and improve company manuals and content focused on learning and development, the release stated. Harris has more than 15 years of executive-leadership experience in multi-site operations, supply-chain logistics and strategic-business planning. He previously served as senior operations manager for Store Space Self Storage, where trained and supervised district managers as well as reformed policies and operational procedures.

Robbins will direct the FreeUp marketing strategy, with a focus on optimizing processes and developing a consistent message. She has more than 15 years of experience in marketing multi-family properties. Most recently, she served as senior director of marketing for Greystar Real Estate Partners, where she collaborated in the development and execution of marketing programs, recruitment advertising and other people-focused business functions.

“We are thrilled to welcome Robbins and Harris to the FreeUp Storage team,” said Matthias Kellmer, president of FreeUp. “Robbins will accelerate customer acquisition and lead generation through marketing efforts, while Harris will improve operations by elevating property and personnel procedures.”

Founded in 2014 and based in Golden, Colorado, Spartan operates more than 60 FreeUp self-storage facilities nationwide.
