Six U.K. self-storage companies have banded together to launch “Storers’ Den,” a competition that’ll reward one self-storage owner who has operated for three years or less with £50,000 in business support for one year. The five finalists, who have already been chosen, will present their growth plans to a panel of industry “Dragons” and a live audience on April 15 at the Mercure Telford Centre Hotel in Telford, England, according to sources. The participating facility operators are:

  • Ancoats Storage, Manchester

  • Hoylake Storage, Hoylake

  • Norbreck Self Storage, Greenhalgh

  • Storage Den, Aberdeen

  • Store Ease, Middlesbrough

The prize package includes advertising, business consultation, marketing and website management. More than 350 U.K. companies entered the race. Applicants were required to submit a form containing an overview of their journey and expansion plans.

During the event, each contender will have 10 minutes to discuss their intentions, followed by 10 minutes of questions from the Dragons, who’ll then deliberate and choose a winner. The judges are Lewis Pennicott, marketing director for Cleveland Containers; Gavin Shields, CEO of Stora; Rory Dunn, founder of Approved Business Finance; Laura Moxham, founder of YBA PPC; Anthony Adams, cofounder of Engage Management Services; and Dean Booty, owner of Store More Self Storage. All are industry vendors with the exception of Store More, which operates four facilities in England.

The 7 p.m. event on April 15 is open to the public. The deadline to purchase tickets is March 22. Food and beverages will be provided. In addition, self-storage professionals will have the opportunity to network.
