ISS Donates $10,000 to Charities via State Associations

Five state self-storage associations won money to donate to community charities during the Inside Self-Storage Las Vegas Expo at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in February. The winners of a drawing to determine which groups would receive $2,000 grants to pass along to charitable causes were: Arizona Self Storage Association, California Self Storage Association, Kansas Self Storage Owners Association, Vermont Self Storage Association and the Washington State Self Storage Association. All state-level storage associations were automatically entered into the contest, and recipients were selected and announced at the Prime-Time Open Forum on Feb. 21. The winning groups can donate the funds to a charity of their own choosing, or they can pass the money to an association member for charity placement.

Supply Source One Awards $1,000 Gift Card at ISS Vegas Expo

Supply Source One, a provider of resale products and business supplies for the self-storage industry, gave away a $1,000 Best Buy gift card during the Inside Self-Storage Las Vegas Expo, Feb. 20-23, at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. Kerry Richard, vice president of operations for Simply Self Storage, was the lucky drawing winner.

The ISS Expo was certainly as rewarding an experience for Supply Source One as it was for Mr. Richard, said company sales representative Rob Kaminski. We met and made friends with nearly 1,000 attendees. Theyre really great people, and we look forward to doing business with them.

The company also offers a rewards program that allows customers to earn points redeemable for more than a hundred home items.

Judge Bars TV Broadcast About Files Sold in Storage Auction

A TV station serving the Orlando-Daytona Beach, Fla., area, has been told it cant broadcast news regarding 80 boxes of documents recently sold at a self-storage auction. The documents belonged to political consultant Doug Guetzloe. Orange Circuit Judge Rom Powell ruled that the broadcasts should be barred until he can decide if the files were obtained properly.

The boxes were stored at a local facility where Guetzloe allegedly failed to pay rent. The units contents were sold at auction for $10 to a man who brought them to WKMG-TV, the CBS network affiliate. Guetzloe and his attorney, Fred ONeal, claim the boxes containing medical records and protected correspondence with attorneys were sold in error and are still legally Guetzloes.

Guetzloe is facing misdemeanor charges for allegedly violating campaign-disclosure laws in relation to an advertising attack on a local mayoral candidate. Judge Powell says the TV stations news broadcasts will destroy any privacy rights Guetzloe might have in relation to the scandal. WKMGs vice president and general manager, Henry Moldonado, said the stations attorneys expected the bar to be lifted in time for the scheduled airing.

Jack Gin, president and CEO of Extreme CCTV, a designer, developer and manufacture of active-infrared night vision surveillance equipment, was invited to speak at the 2007 USBX Security Growth Conference, Mar. 6-7, in Santa Monica, Calif. Now in its fifth year, the USBX Security Growth Conference is the premier source for middle-market business opportunities in the $150 billion security market. The conference brought together CEOs and senior executives of global security companies and members of the financial community. Only 50 security companies presented at this by-invitation-only event. The conference was hosted by USBX Advisory Services, Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp and Capital Source.

Texas Self Storage Association Volunteers Work With Habitat for Humanity

Recently, more than a dozen Texas Self Storage Association (TSSA) member volunteers showed up in Beaumont, Texas, to work for Habitat for Humanity. Habitat Beaumont is building 29 new houses, with 27 of them built specifically to provide housing for individuals displaced by Hurricane Rita, which hit the area in 2005. TSSA sponsored two of the homes on the street with a $10,000 donation, and 14 volunteers came out to lend additional support with their labor.
