Toledo, OH, Officials, Approve Moratorium on Self-Storage, Car Washes
July 19, 2024
The Toledo, Ohio, City Council this week approved a moratorium on the development of self-storage facilities and car washes. The legislation will be in effect until Jan. 31, according to the source.
The ban will allow the local plan commission to perform an impact study of these services on the community. “The concern is that there is a proliferation of car washes and storage facilities. They seem to be popping up all over the place,” said councilmember Adam Martinez. “They’re probably not the highest and best use of land. We want to make sure we’re creating density.”
The study will also map out existing storage facilities and car washes in the city. “Maybe the study will show there is not an issue, or it needs to be studied further,” Martinez said. “Or maybe they find out that some are built on Brownfield sites that restrict the type of buildings that can be located there. So, they will dig into the weeds on this.”
