Valet Self-Storage Operator Clutter Partners With Foley for Driver Compliance

Valet-storage operator Clutter has partnered with Hartford, Conn.-based Foley Carrier Services LLC, which specializes in Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance as well as recruiting and background-screening services for the transportation industry. The alliance will help Clutter hire new drivers, manage existing drivers and maintain DOT compliance among its 500-member team, many of whom use trucks to pick up and deliver customer goods, according to a press release.

“We needed a partner that would be responsive to our ongoing needs, as well as have the technology required to manage both our application process and ongoing compliance,” said Aaron Bagherpour, head of compliance for Clutter.

In helping Clutter manage compliance issues, Foley added the operator’s historical files to its own environment for continued monitoring. “Now that this step is complete, the portal helps maintain each file on an ongoing basis by tracking important dates and sending the Clutter team alerts and notifications when action is required,” said Greg Pakiela, director of customer success for Foley.

The portal is also designed to simplify new-driver onboarding and ensure each driver’s initial compliance requirements are met. The system will automatically create new-driver profiles, manage DOT background screening, and schedule pre-employment physical exams and drug tests, the release stated.

“The Foley portal automates many of the manual onboarding and compliance processes that we had previously, [which] consumed a lot of the team’s time,” Bagherpour said. “This allows us to get drivers on the road faster and focus more of our time and energy on growing the business.”

Similar to other valet-style storage operators, Clutter offers by-the-bin storage targeted at urban residents who don’t have adequate home storage. Founded in 2013, the Los Angeles-based company uses an online platform that allows customers to schedule free item pickup, maintain an image catalog of stored bins and bulky items, and schedule delivery of items to their home. It operates in several domestic markets including Chicago, Los Angeles, New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle.
