Doorage, which provides valet-style self-storage services in Chicago as well as Madison and Milwaukee, Wis., has agreed to acquire Boston-based valet-storage operator On Demand Storage. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter. In addition, the company will add “home market” bases for storage and moving services in Columbus, Ohio, as well as Las Vegas in February, according to a press release.

On Demand Storage specializes in business- and student-storage services. In addition to providing Doorage with a base in Boston, the acquisition will tie into the network of warehouses, launched in 2019, that allows Doorage to offer pick-up and delivery services nationwide. “This deal opens more routes and facilities for our national service network and expands our large student-storage offering even more,” said CEO Sean Sandona. “The Boston market has always been a target for our team and was one of our final steps before moving into [New York City] services.”

Along with Boston, the addition of Columbus and Las Vegas will complete the Doorage national network, the release stated. “Vegas has long been on our list for new markets due to the level of demand from neighboring California, and Columbus is a great city that we have been offering limited services in for a while,” Sandona said.

Further market expansion is expected. “We have entered into multiple acquisition agreements with traditional and valet companies and look forward to completing the transition of merging customers, teams and systems,” Sandona said. “But Boston is our main focus right now.”

Founded in 2018, Doorage uses an online platform for its valet service that allows customers to schedule item pickup, maintain a visual catalog of stored belongings, and schedule delivery of items to their home. The company determines each customer’s rental rate based on the exact amount of cubic footage used.
