Update 10/25/23 – Safestore is once again supporting the annual “Wrap Up” donation drive to collect coats for people in need this winter. It’s the 12th consecutive year the operator has participated in the campaign. Contributions can be made at company facilities through Dec. 3. In addition, Safestore will provide free space to store the clothing until it can be distributed.

The campaign collected more than 15,000 coats in 2022 and 212,032 since its inception in 2011. The donations have been distributed through more than 100 charities nationwide.

“As we approach the winter season, we recognize that there will be many people who are in a vulnerable position, especially in light of the cost-of-living challenges,” said Shahid Kadodia, digital and marketing director for Safestore. “We sincerely hope that the public rallies behind this cause, enabling us to contribute an even greater number of coats this year.”

“We are grateful to Safestore for offering several locations as donation drop-off points and providing us with complimentary storage space in numerous branches allowing us to extend the reach of our coat collection campaign,” said Ahmed Osman, U.K. programs and fundraising officer for Human Appeal, one of the nonprofits involved in Wrap Up. “We're optimistic about our ability to make an even larger contribution of coats this winter than ever before, and we’d like to encourage the public to donate any unwanted coats as soon as possible.”

11/4/2019 –  Safestore Holdings PLC, which operates more than 140 self-storage facilities in the United Kingdom, is supporting the “Wrap Up,” a donation drive to collect coats for people in need this winter. It’s the ninth consecutive year the operator has participated in the campaign, which is spearheaded by Hands On London, an organization that connects volunteers with nonprofits, charities and community groups.

Donations of new and gently used coats will be accepted this month at several of the operator’s facilities in England and Scotland. They’ll be stored and sorted, then distributed to various charitable organizations.

Although originally based in London, the Wrap Up campaign has spread to Birmingham and Manchester, England, and Glasgow, Scotland. Volunteers collect, transport and sort the donated coats for distribution to local charities that have contact with the homeless, elderly and other people in need, according to the Safestore blog. The charities are given only as many coats as they can distribute. Last year, the campaign collected 36,000 coats in the United Kingdom, 27,000 of which were donated in London.

“With so many people in need, sadly some of the most vulnerable people will not have the luxury of wearing a coat this winter,” said Shahid Kadodia, digital and marketing director for Safestore. “With this figure only set to rise, we are very passionate about supporting the Wrap Up campaign across several of our stores, as they are working so hard to provide comfort and care for those in need. We’re proud to have supported this campaign over the years, and we hope to donate even more coats this winter.”

Safestore operates 119 facilities it owns in the U.K. and 27 in France. Its storage properties comprise 6.37 million square feet of storage space and serve approximately 64,000 customers.
