Island Self-Storage Opens Second Location in Pembroke, Bermuda

Island Self-Storage of Pembroke, Bermuda, has opened its second location, in the same city. The property on Cox’s Hill Road comprises 8,000 square feet of storage space in 103 units. Property features include climate control and video cameras. Concierge services will be offered on Saturday mornings to assist tenants who are moving heavy items, according to the source.

The new facility is the operator’s third expansion. A year after opening its first facility in 2010, at 2 Mill Reach Lane, it added 84 units to the property, citing growing demand for self-storage on the island as its motivation.

“There is a demand in the market for [storage]. There isn’t much competition, and other facilities aren’t as big as us,” said Shawn Gravito, who will co-manage the new facility with Fawn Wade. “We are the first climate-controlled facility with 24-hour access. That is our benefit and our strength. We are forward-driven. We set the trend and everyone else came in behind us.”

Island Self-Storage was developed by Don Mackenzie, chairman of New Venture Holdings Ltd., in collaboration with business consultant Glen Smith, president of Island Solutions Bermuda Ltd. In addition to self-storage, the operator offers wine storage, moving and packing supplies, and fax and photocopy services.
