OpenTech Alliance Inc., a Phoenix-based provider of kiosks, call-center services and other technology for the self-storage industry, was awarded a patent for its Insomniac SmartLock by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. It was granted for the company’s retrofit models, battery life and system network, according to a press release.
Designed to replace traditional overlocks and facilitate unit-lock management, SmartLock offers self-storage operators an electronically controllable, cloud-based product intended to improve onsite visibility and security, streamline workflows, and enhance tenant convenience. The system enables remote-access management, real-time activity tracking and instant alerts for unauthorized entry, all connected to the facility’s property-management system, the release stated.
Powered by AA batteries, so it doesn’t rely on internet connectivity, SmartLock has a six-year battery life. It allows mobile Bluetooth access and keycode sharing, even if the facility’s wireless connection is down. It comes in three models, two of which can be installed on existing door hasps without having to cut the original lock, the release stated.
“Receiving this patent is a significant achievement for OpenTech and a testament to our team’s relentless drive to innovate,” said CEO Robert A. Chiti. “This recognition by the federal government underscores the unique value our SmartLock platform delivers to self-storage owners and operators. We’re excited to continue raising the bar for technology while lowering the costs.”
OpenTech specializes in smart-connected technology solutions. Its products and services include the Insomniac line of kiosks as well as call-center solutions and access-control systems.
