QuikStor, a provider of software and security technology for the self-storage industry, has launched QuikStor Management Software (QMS) after three years of development and testing. The program leverages the benefits of modern platform-as-a-service providers and is designed to support the complete web-application lifecycle, according to a press release.

QMS has a distributed architecture that disperses the application's workload across multiple nodes instead of relying on a single central server. This allows for greater speed, scalability and configurability, according to quikstor.com. The software offers basic self-storage functionality including rentals, payments, reporting and revenue management as well as advanced modules for lead follow-up, marketing, tenant communication and task management. It also includes a tenant portal.

QSM was initiated in 2021 after Brett Henry and John Koudsi, owners of Trojan Storage, acquired a controlling interest in QuikStor with the goal of creating their own management software. They believed the influx of private equity and institutional capital into the industry led to significant consolidation among software providers, reducing competition and stifling innovation, the release stated.

"With many of the vendors in the market, it became evident that innovation had taken a back seat to further consolidation and profit-seeking,” Henry said. “This may have been a great decision for their businesses, but it was certainly not in the best interest of storage owners and operators.”

A team of technology veterans and a consortium of self-storage operators was assembled to define the functionalities for the software and create a new program.

“We recognized very early that most of the software serving the self-storage industry was built upon dated technologies. Existing systems were slow, difficult to scale and offered little in terms of configurability,” said Andre Hadzi-Pavlovic, chief technology officer for QuikStor. “To deliver a game-changing solution, we needed to start from the ground up. Leveraging the significant investment that John and Brett made in the organization, we staffed a large research and development team, held countless sessions with industry experts to ensure the system design would meet their needs, and have delivered what we believe will be considered the gold standard in self-storage technology.”

“We are beyond excited to see our team's years of hard work come to fruition. We truly feel that our new technology will be a game-changer for the industry,” Koudsi said.

Founded in 1987, QuikStor offers management software and access-control products including door and gate keypads.

Trojan operates 49 locations in six states. They offer climate-controlled, drive-up and vehicle storage.
