When entrepreneurs go on vacation, they view things a bit differently than typical tourists. Germany offers myriad attractions for travelers, but when self-storage owner David McBride visited, he was particularly taken with the prevalence of solar- and wind-powered systems in the country. He also noted a similarity in climate to Northern Michigan, where he operates Northland Self-Storage. Fascinated by solar power since childhood, he decided to take the plunge and install a panel system at his facility in Petoskey, Mich.
