In this video filmed at the 2018 Inside Self-Storage World Expo, industry attorney Scott Zucker talks about the moratoriums several cities have enacted to curb self-storage development in their communities. He offers insight on which areas are enacting these bans and the legal justification that allows them to halt construction. Zucker also offers advice on the legal recourse that might be available to developers in these situations as well as tips on how to better present a storage project to gain favor with officials.

Zucker is a partner in the law firm Weissmann Zucker Euster Morochnik & Garber P.C. in Atlanta, which specializes in business litigation with an emphasis on real estate, landlord-tenant and construction law. He’s a frequent speaker at self-storage industry events, author of “Legal Topics in Self Storage: A Sourcebook for Owners and Managers,” and a partner in the Self Storage Legal Network, a subscription-based legal service for storage owners and managers.
