PTI Security Systems, a provider of access-control technologies for the self-storage industry, has released the keyless Helox padlock, which functions via Bluetooth. The product will debut at the Inside Self Storage World Expo, April 11-14, in Las Vegas, and will be available by the end of the second quarter, according to a press release.

Helox integrates with PTI’s tenant-facing mobile app, EasyCode, and operator-facing app, StorLogix Mobile. It also works with and the company’s access-control platform, StorLogix Cloud. The padlock allows keyless protection of self-storage units with no disruption to current access-control systems, the release stated. It also provides overlock capabilities to protect off-limit spaces.

The rechargeable, battery-operated lock has a life of up to five years, or 5,000 access cycles. Designed to perform in a temperature range of 25ºC to 60ºC, with an IP68-waterproof rating, it’s equipped with a clock as well as cloud connectivity up to 50 meters in range. It can log real-time events while reporting its status and audit trails to the StorLogix Cloud platform. Helox has online and offline connection modes, with backup power available via USB cable, the release stated.

The use of Bluetooth allows for fully automated web-to-unit rentals and digital-key sharing. Self-storage tenants can rent their unit online and then access it via the EasyCode app. They can also give friends, family members or business associates a one-time digital key to open the door. Facility operators can deny the key share and overlock the unit via StorLogix Cloud or StorLogix Mobile if they suspect inappropriate usage.
