HowsMyStore.com Launches Smart Monitoring Solution for Self-Storage Operators

HowsMyStore.com (HMS) launched a new “smart” solution this week that helps self-storage operators monitor various systems and functions at their properties and gather facility data. Through an IoT (Internet of Things) platform, a central gateway and a series of wireless sensors, the company allows users to track things including gate and unit-door access, temperature and humidity control, motion detection and traffic flow, water leaks, and pest activity. It also provides analytics and alerts through a desktop or app-based dashboard; text messaging; daily, weekly or monthly status reports; and a facility-sensor map, according to a press release.

Designed to be used by all levels of self-storage employees, the technology is easy to install, and HMS offers flexible services options and support packages that can be tailored to individual business needs, the release stated. Training can be administered virtually or via a technician, who can also provide installation and support onsite.

“We are bringing the smart-home concept into the self-storage space,” said Benjamin Friend, general manager. “We see this solution saving facility owners a lot of money, time and hassle. Our goal was to create a solution that is easy to install, simple to use and completely focused on an exceptional customer experience.”

The platform’s text and email alert system is designed to help operators address problems as they occur. The company also envisions the service as an add-on profit center for operators who offer it as a custom-monitoring package for individual units, according to the release. “Our developers were razor-focused on creating a solution that storage facility owners and staff would actually use and benefit from,” Friend said.

The HMS offering can also be used to monitor car, boat and RV storage.

HMS is a division of Warminster, Pa.-based HowsMyStuff LLC. Its staff has more than 20 years of experience in the IoT space, the release stated.
