ISS BLOG - My Digital Dive Into the World of Self-Storage Investing Podcasts and YouTube Video
Many folks have shifted their listening habits away from mainstream radio to podcasts and YouTube video, which is an excellent way to consume digital content about the things that matter to them most. If self-storage investing is in your list of interests, there are lots of options out there to help you expand your knowledge base. The author shares his personal favorites.

I used to be a diehard listener of mainstream radio, bouncing between music stations and sports-talk radio, depending on my mood. However, over the last few years, I've focused on making my driving time or other casual activities, such as hiking and yard work, more productive by listening to podcasts or YouTube videos. The topics vary, but I lean toward educational content, so I'm always learning something.
My favorite subjects include current events, the economy, the stock market, sports, real estate investing and more recently, self-storage—especially on the investing side. My primary strategy is to find podcast interviews with industry professionals; however, my YouTube algorithms are adjusting to my habits, and self-storage content is regularly popping up there, too.
Self-Storage Podcasts
There are many ways to listen to podcasts, but my favorite is Podbean. Its search tool lets you enter a term like “self-storage” and sorts the results by title or episodes. This makes it easy to find sources about that subject and discover new podcasts to which to subscribe. Sorting by episode provides a list of individual shows from lesser-known content producers, expanding my range.
Here are a few examples of storage-focused podcast episodes that were posted just within the last couple of weeks. None of these shows are industry-specific.
On “Invest Smarter Podcast,” Simon Castillo interviewed Russell Nersesov, a founder and managing partner of Safe Storage Investors and Safe Storage USA.
Moody’s posted an episode forecasting the self-storage business next year.
“Do More Podcast” featured self-storage investor Kris Bennett, exploring his journey toward building a portfolio worth $130 million.
“Live Off Rents Podcast,” explained why land and self-storage investments outperform traditional real estate.

Self-Storage Streaming Video
Did you know that YouTube is the second most used search engine in the world, with more than 3 billion searches per month, trailing only Google? It’d probably be ranked third if I stopped using it.
YouTube is a great platform for discovering independent content creators discussing different aspects of the self-storage industry. With YouTube Shorts offering bite-sized info in three minutes or less and long-form videos from many podcast producers, there's a steady stream of content to explore. Just this morning, I searched “self-storage business” and got the below results. Some of these are folks we’ve already featured on our own Self-Storage TV channel here at ISS.

“How Profitable Can Self-Storage Be?” by Sweaty Startup

My primary interest is in the investing and finance side of the industry, so my algorithms favor search results on those topics. However, there are plenty of other videos on facility operation and other segments of the business. I don’t always have time to dig into these as I find them, so I save them to my “Watch Later” folder. Fortunately, there’s no limit to how many items can be saved. My folder is busting at the seams!
