6/16/23 – Explosions were heard during a three-alarm fire on Wednesday evening at a self-storage facility in San Jose, California. The incident at Public Storage, 88 Blossom Hill Road, was reported at 6:30 p.m., according to sources.

The fire began as a two-alarm but was upgraded an hour after fire crews arrived. A huge plume of black smoke was visible for miles, and neighbors reported hearing what sounded like fireworks or small explosions that shook their homes, a source reported.

The blaze was eventually contained, but firefighters worked overnight to prevent it from reigniting. Its cause is under investigation. No one was injured.

It’s unknown how many self-storage units were affected. The property contains one multi-story building and several single-story structures.

Based in Glendale, California, Public Storage has interests in 2,877 self-storage facilities in 40 states, with approximately 205 million net rentable square feet.
