3 Firefighters Suffer Injuries During Waldorf, MD, Self-Storage Fire

Three volunteer firefighters suffered minor injuries Saturday morning while battling a fire at a self-storage facility in Waldorf, Md. The blaze at Economy Storage of Waldorf, 3325 Leonardtown Road, began just after 6 a.m. About 40 units were engulfed by the flames, according to the source.

One of the firefighters was treated at the scene for dehydration. Another suffered a twisted ankle and was taken to the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center. The third was taken to The Burn Center at MedStar Washington Hospital Center with second degree burns on his ears and first-degree burns on his shoulders. All three are expected to make a full recovery, the source reported.

Fire companies from Bryans Road, Hughesville, La Plata and Waldorf, Ma., were on the scene. The Maryland State Fire Marshal assisted. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Economy Storage offers drive-up storage, moving and packing supplies, and truck rentals.
