A woman who may have been illegally living in a Beaufort, South Carolina, self-storage unit was found dead in her rented space last week. An autopsy declared the 46-year-old died of natural causes, according to the source.

The property manager of Forward Storage at 878 Parris Island Gateway contacted police on Dec. 10 after discovering Annette Shelton lying unresponsive on the floor of the unit. Shelton had been living there since Nov. 25, the employee told authorities.

It’s illegal to live or use a self-storage unit for residential purposes in the state.

Forward Storage operates 33 facilities in 14 states. All offer drive-up units and 24-hour access.
