What Goes Around

[A guest blog spot by ISS Editor Drew Whitney.]

Leisa and Norm Honeycutt visited the ISS booth at the last convention I attended, the Florida Self Storage Association Conference in Orlando, earlier this month. This great couple is relatively new to the industry and continuously inspired by their new venture. And theyre proud of the website Norm created for their facility.
Since my computer was up and running at the booth, we logged onto www.sentrystoragebelleview.com so I could take a peek. Theres a fun intro piece and plenty of information for people seeking storage or pack-and-ship services, which is a must-have on any self-storage site. What caught my eye, though, was a listing of nearby businesses, along with direct links to a promo/information page for each, including products, services and contact info.
This service impressed me, from a consumer point of view, because I (probably like lots of other busy folks) appreciate all opportunities to shorten errand time, particularly by hitting a few stores in a row instead of driving here, there and everywhere. Within the same plaza as Sentry Storage, I can take my kids for haircuts, browse through a thrift shop, pick up cell-phone supplies, get my Christmas decorations out of storage, and ship a present to my grandma. I instantly like this facility!
Moreover, from the self-storage owner/manager point of view, this is yet another way your operation can be of service to the community, making friends and clients along the way. It sends a message of care to all involved and makes great business sense: What goes around, comes around.
Do you have any nearby neighbors you can promote to potential storage customers? What works for your site? Post a comment to this blog let us know.
In the meantime, have a great Thanksgiving weekend!
