Man Attempts Suicide After Allegedly Setting Amarillo, Texas, Self-Storage Unit Ablaze

An unidentified man shot himself in front of police at a SecurCare Self Storage in Amarillo, Texas, last week after allegedly setting fire to a unit. He was rushed to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the source.

Police responded to 2501 Paramount Blvd. shortly after 10 a.m. on Friday to reports of shots being fired in or near a storage space. When they arrived, the man shot himself. While administering first-aid, emergency responders noticed smoke coming from a unit on the first floor of the two-story building. Firefighters found three units ablaze, which they got under control within 30 minutes.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident. It’s unknown if the victim was a tenant of the self-storage facility. No update has been made about his condition or the extent of the damage to the property.
