Man Arrested After Bodies of 2 Missing Women Found at Separate Minnesota Self-Storage Facilities

The bodies of two missing women were recently found at separate Minnesota self-storage facilities, and police have linked one man to both deaths. Fanta Xayavong, 40, was discovered on July 6 at a facility in Coon Rapids, while Manijeh “Mani” Starren, 33, was found last month at iStorage Self Storage in Woodbury. Both incidents have been ruled as homicides, according to sources.

Joseph Jorgenson, 40, was charged on June 30 with second-degree murder in the death of Starren and is a person of interest in the murder of Xayavong, who had been missing for two years. Jorgenson had a relationship with both women. Police are also investigating whether there’s a link between Jorgenson and other missing-person cases, a source reported.

Police began investigating Starren’s disappearance on May 1, after she’d been missing for nearly two weeks. Her family told police that she was afraid of Jorgenson, who was her boyfriend at the time. There was evidence that he had physically abused her. Family members also reported that Starren struggled with drug addiction and mental-health issues.

Police uncovered video evidence that Starren had attempted to flee from her apartment on April 21, but Jorgensen detained her. Starren’s blood was later found inside the residence. Weeks later, Jogensen’s neighbors complained of a foul odor coming from his apartment, though a police search came up empty. Starren’s body was then found in the storage unit, which Jorgensen rented under his roommate’s name.

While investigating Starren’s death, police came across a tip that the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension received in May about Xayavong. The caller claimed the woman had been in an abusive relationship with Jorgenson prior to her disappearance in July 2021. They searched a residence that Jorgenson was living in last fall, but haven’t yet determined where or when Xayavong was killed.

Jorgenson is being held on $5 million bail. He’s scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 21.
