Female Rape Victim Who Was Aided by Self-Storage Staff Sees Her Attacker Sentenced

A female rape victim who escaped her attacker in April with the help of staff at the London self-storage facility where she rents a unit saw some justice last week when her attacker was sentenced to 12 years in jail. Luke Sewell, 30, was found guilty on Nov. 28 of rape and causing bodily harm.

The physical assault included forcing the victim to take a “freezing cold” shower for an hour before she was raped at a home in Dunsfold, England, according to the source. The day after the attack, the victim, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis (MS), convinced Sewell to drive her to the unidentified self-storage facility under the guise that she would collect her belongings and move in with him. Once on the property, the woman told staff she had been raped and was kept safe until police arrived, the source reported.

Sewell’s sentence includes an additional three years due to the dangerousness of his offense, according to the source. Judge Rufus Taylor said the victim had been subject to humiliation and degradation as well as violence.

“I am still suffering with the injuries to my chest that Sewell inflicted upon me,” the victim wrote in an impact statement read to the court. “I can’t go to the gym because of my injuries. I loved to go to the gym, and it is also a very important part of managing MS to build my strength.”

In addition to the jail sentence, judge Rufus Taylor ordered an indefinite restraining order be put in place.
