Extra Space Storage Inc., a publicly traded self-storage real estate investment trust (REIT) and third-party management firm, has been named on the 2019 list of “America's Best Midsize Employers” by “Forbes” magazine. The REIT ranked 194 out of 500 listings. It was also recognized among the top five Utah-based businesses and was the only self-storage company on the list.

“Our people are the lifeblood of Extra Space, and we really pride ourselves as a company on taking care of our people and making Extra Space a top choice for talent,” said Extra Space CEO Joe Margolis. “We're glad to see ‘Forbes’ recognize our unique company culture and include Extra Space on their list of top employers.”

“Forbes” partnered with market-research company Statista to identify companies liked best by employees for its annual ranking, which is divided into two lists. One highlights large companies with more than 5,000 U.S. employees, while the other showcases midsize companies with 1,000 to 5,000. Extra Space was featured in the “Business Service & Supplies” category for midsized employers.

Statista anonymously surveyed 50,000 Americans working for companies with at least 1,000 employees. Respondents were asked to rate how likely they’d recommend their employer to others on a scale of one to 10. Statista then asked them to nominate organizations in industries outside their own. The final list ranks 500 large and 500 midsize employers that received the most recommendations.

Extra Space was also recently named one of the “Best Places to Work” and a “Utah Business Best Companies to Work For” by Glassdoor, a job-search website in which employees can anonymously review companies.

Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Extra Space owns or operates more than 1,647 self-storage properties nationwide and in Puerto Rico. The company’s properties comprise approximately 1.2 million units and 125.7 million square feet of rentable space.
