Officers Interrupt Burglary in Progress at Berkeley, CA, Self-Storage Facility

Police recently interrupted a burglary in progress at a self-storage facility in Berkeley, Calif., after noticing a suspiciously parked car in front of the property. Three people were arrested on multiple charges in connection with the break in at the Extra Space Storage, according to the source.

Officers were passing the facility at 601 Cedar St. on Feb. 25 when they spotted a vehicle parked in a handicapped spot after 9 p.m. While speaking with a woman who was sitting in the car, the officers saw in plain sight a substance they suspected to be drugs. They then discovered a man and a woman inside the storage facility.

The vehicle contained 59 grams of methamphetamine. Upon searching the suspects’ homes, investigators gathered evidence of additional crimes, the source reported.

Leah J. Pollack, a 34-year-old dog groomer, was charged with burglary, felony firearm possession, forgery, false impersonation, grand theft, identity theft, possession of burglary tools, receiving stolen property and willful cruelty to a child. Police also recovered an illicit gun at her home. Pollack, who was on probation for a prior conviction, is being held at Berkeley City Jail on a $395,000 bond, the source reported.

Antonia Samaguey, 46, allegedly had stolen property in hands when arrested, the source reported. She’s been charged with attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance and receiving stolen property. She’s being held on a $330,000 bond at Berkeley City Jail.

Gerardo Vega, 38, was charged with burglary, felony possession of ammunition, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of burglary tools, receiving stolen property and transporting a controlled substance. He’s being held at Berkeley City Jail on a $465,000 bond.
