1784 Capital Holdings Allocates Art Space at Oro Valley, AZ, Self-Storage Property

Real estate developer 1784 Capital Holdings LLC, which acquires, develops, constructs and owns self-storage facilities, has allocated space at its Steam Pump Self Storage location in Oro Valley, Ariz., for artists and producers of creative goods. The company is working with Judith HeartSong, founder of Artists & Makers Studios (A&M), to house gallery space and offer 12 individual workspaces for rent, according to the source.

HeartSong previously teamed with 1784 in creating her first A&M studio in Rockville, Md. The developer approached her about bringing the concept to the Tucson, Ariz., market. “Having visited Tucson, I fell in love with the town,” HeartSong told the source. “Tucson is this gathering of artists. You meet a lot of artists; you meet gallery owners; you meet people involved in fine art and crafts in all sorts of ways. It’s just a mecca for artists.”

The A&M studio is nearing completion. Besides workspace and a gallery, HeartSong also intends to offer events, workshops and meeting space. “The goal is to help these artists that are with us gain more exposure—to teach them how to do that and get their work out there, so they can really start to make a living through their art,” she said.

The three-story self-storage facility at 11061 N. Oracle Road is already open and managed by real estate investment trust Life Storage Inc. The site is within the Steam Pump Village Shopping Center.

The A&M studio is part of a larger community push for increased community and art space in the Tucson area, the source reported. HeartSong, an artist herself, founded A&M with two silent business partners in 2014.
