Vine Grove, KY, Self-Storage Owner to Launch Self-Storage Entrepreneurship Course

Lisa Storey, an entrepreneur and co-owner of Vine Grove Storage in Vine Grove, Kentucky, intends to launch an online training course next year on how to start a self-storage business. Storey has had a varied career in education and healthcare, including stints as a health-information technician, elementary and high school teacher, school librarian, and principal. She’s also launched multiple businesses and spoken at entrepreneurial events. She believes her professional experiences and diverse background will help others pursue self-storage opportunities, she told the source.

While working as an educator, Storey and her husband, Jesse, opened the first Vine Grove Storage in 2008. It was built in phases and today comprises more than 200 units. The Storeys acquired a second facility last year in Irvington, Kentucky.

Storey left education in 2018 to launch a boutique retail business called The Carousel Shop, which she transformed into a mobile boutique after a serious car accident. Circumstances related to the coronavirus pandemic forced her to sell her bus and consign her remaining inventory, though she does plan to relaunch the business eventually, the source reported.

Storey believes the skills she learned as an educator, including public speaking and communication, translate well to entrepreneurship. She also claims that her business experiences and struggles will translate well through her training course. “I absolutely love sharing my experiences as an entrepreneur,” Storey told the source. “I feel that I have a lot to offer those who are just starting out. I can share my wins, but more importantly, I can share my losses. Sometimes telling entrepreneurs what they should not do is more important than telling them what they should do. I never look at something as a failure but more as a learning experience.

“I have shared my insight in entrepreneurship with others for a very long time, even before opening Vine Grove Storage,” she continued. “I have always had a knack for brainstorming new business ventures. It is my love for this that makes me want to share it more and more.”

Storey holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and two master’s degrees in middle-grade education and library media science from Western Kentucky University.

Vine Grove Storage offers traditional, climate-controlled and vehicle storage. The company also caters to customers with online rentals and billpay, video surveillance and military discounts.
