BrightPocket.com, a new storage business based in Marienville, Pa., intends to compete with the self-storage industry via its website and smartphone app. The service will allow customers to ship items to its 40,000-square-foot warehouse via UPS and manage those items online.

Started by Paul Vidic, who previously ran an export business for 12 years, BrightPocket differs from traditional self-storage in that it provides a pickup and delivery service. In addition to storage space, customers pay for transportation of their goods. At present, they can only store items that can be shipped via UPS.

Customers can catalog the items they put into storage using the website. Once collected by BrightPocket, items can be requested at any time by category, such as winter clothes or holiday decorations.

Registration for the service and the mobile app are free. Warehouse space is currently priced at $0.49 per cubic foot per month, not including shipping costs, which are billed separately.

BrightPocket will initially target college students in Pennsylvania, using social media and online advertising, Vidic told the source.
