It’s standard practice to ask a new self-storage tenant for identification. Many facility operators make a copy and attach it to the customer’s file. But what about a prospect who seeks a facility tour? Do you need to see a driver’s license or other government-issued ID? There are many advantages to this, particularly from a safety perspective. The question is whether it’s off-putting in the customer’s eyes. Will they understand and comply, or will they feel you’re violating their privacy?
