Updates to the self-storage laws in Georgia, Idaho, Kansas and Virginia took effect on July 1 and are now active. House Bill (HB) 934 in Georgia was signed by Gov. Brian Kemp in May, while HB 576 in Idaho, HB 2545 in Kansas and SB 355 in Virginia were signed by their respective governors in April.

These laws join amendments that recently took effect in Utah on May 1, in Maryland on June 1 and Washington, D.C., on June 12. Additionally, HB 2087, which amends laws impacting liens and rental agreements, will take effect in Arizona on Sept. 14. Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs signed the bill on March 29, according to a July 1 newsletter distributed by the national Self Storage Association to its members.

The SSA represents more than 22,000 U.S. and international member-affiliated self-storage facilities, according to its website. It’s allied with several state and international self-storage associations and has about 6,000 members.
