U.K. self-storage operator Cuboid, a subsidiary of FI Real Estate Management (FIREM), has launched a new product, Business in a Box, designed to provide self-storage and self-contained office space to startups and small to medium-sized enterprises. A pilot program began at the company’s facilities in Chorley and Eccleston, England, with more expected to roll out by the end of the first quarter, according to a press release.

The new product—a 160-square-foot, two-story container with self-storage on the bottom and an office on top—aims to provide a cost-effective alternative to traditional office rentals. Each unit is equipped with electricity, heating, lighting, windows, flooring and insulation. Prices start at £750 per month for a minimum 12-month term.

If the initial rollout is successful, Cuboid will make Business in a Box available on a sign-up basis, the release stated.

“Times are tough for businesses. Traditional office rents are going up, supply is lower than usual, and some businesses have been hit by the changes in the recent Autumn Budget,” said Tim Knowles, managing director and founder of FIREM. “This product offers small businesses, e-commerce companies and startups the chance to get out of their spare bedroom or garage and have their own professional workspace where they can efficiently grow their business with storage for stock. It’s a truly unique product and one I’m proud to launch to the market as someone who started out like these small businesses with a dream.”

Launched in 2023, Cuboid operates 23 container-storage facilities in England and Wales comprising more than 150,000 square feet. The company plans to invest in 36 acres of land and install at least 5,500 containers over the next five years.
