A 47-year-old man is facing multiple charges after crashing through the automatic gate at 365 Self Storage in Baldwin, Georgia, on Monday, then attempting to hide from authorities in one of the units there. The incident happened just after the driver was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident, according to the source.
Christopher Hodge was driving a black car on Duncan Bridge Road just before 1 a.m. when he made a U-turn and hit the back of an SUV. The impact caused the SUV to spin out of control and leave the road while Hodge left the scene. Hodge attempted to evade police by driving through the security gate at 4175 State Route 365. He then parked his vehicle inside a vacant unit. The property’s burglary alarm alerted officers, who discovered Hodge sitting in his car. His actions were caught on the storage facility’s video surveillance, the source reported.
Authorities estimate damage to the gate at more than $15,000. A search of Hodge’s vehicle uncovered marijuana, methamphetamine and open alcoholic-beverage containers.
Hodge is facing charges of second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal damage to property, and possession of drugs and drug-related objects. The hit-and-run is still under investigation, the source reported.
365 Self Storage offers more than 150 climate-controlled and drive-up storage units, 24-hour access, and onsite security, including digital video surveillance.
