Update 11/25/24 – Investigators have identified the body found after last week’s fire at Broadmoor Self Storage as that of Corinne Abosamra, 33. Most recently, she had been living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her death is now being investigated as suspicious, a source reported.

Investigators believe the blaze began in the unit where Abosamra’s body was found. However, the cause of the fire and her connection to the storage facility have yet to be determined. A report from the Kent County Medical Examiner is pending, a source reported.

“[The Kentwood Police Department is] trying to rule out whether it was foul play or something that we’ve seen in the past where people have lived in storage units in the area,” Roelofs said.

Kentwood Police and Fire Departments responded to a call of multiple units on fire at 4284 Broadmoor Ave. S.E. just after 10:45 p.m. Crews found smoke coming from several spaces within one building. The body was found after the flames were extinguished, the sources stated.

“Somebody [was] found inside of a storage unit. That’s not a normal circumstance,” said police captain Jason Roelofs. “[Kentwood PD is] trying to rule out whether it was foul play or something that we’ve seen in the past where people have lived in storage units in the area.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
