Life Storage Inc., a self-storage real estate investment trust (REIT) and management company, has partnered with solar-power company Pivot Energy to add solar panels at 21 locations across multiple states. The initiative includes the expansion of the company’s use of solar at its East Coast properties as well as its first projects in California, according to a press release.
Recent installations were completed at nine self-storage facilities in Sacramento and Woodland, California. Eight other California projects and an unspecified number of installations at facilities in the Northeast are expected to be complete by the end of the year, the release stated.
“We are proud to be developing this solar portfolio for a company like Life Storage that is also firmly committed to ambitious ESG [environmental, social and governance] goals,” said Erik Bruner, director of business development for Pivot. “Solar is a fantastic step in making an operation more sustainable, and we hope to see more self-storage businesses inspired by Life Storage’s green leadership.”
Life Storage intends to install solar panels across its national portfolio, according to Eric Schlegel, project manager for design and sustainability. “We are excited for the completion of these projects and the benefits they will bring for our customers, the communities we operate in, and for our investors,” he said.
Based in Buffalo, New York, Life Storage operates more than 1,100 self-storage facilities in 36 states. Its portfolio of owned and managed facilities comprises more than 81 million square feet.
Based in Denver, Pivot offers a range of services and software aimed at serving the full commercial solar ecosystem, including retail customers, project developers, system operators, utilities and financiers, according to the release. The company develops, finances, builds and manages community and commercial solar projects nationwide.
