Body Found Inside Russellville, AL, Self-Storage Unit After Fire

A body of an adult male was discovered early Saturday morning inside a Russellville, Alabama, self-storage unit following a fire at the property. About 14 units at Russellville Mini Storage were destroyed by the blaze, according to sources.

A motorist who spotted smoke at 15497 AL-243 called 911 at 11:40 p.m. When crews arrived, seven units were burning, according to Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett. Investigators believe the inferno began inside the unit where the man was later found, then quickly spread.

The victim might’ve been working on a car at the time, which is something he did often inside several of the units he rented at the facility, family members told a source. A truck, believed to belong to him, was parked in front of the unit where the fire started.

Although the event is under investigation, officials believe the blaze might’ve started from a heat source. They don’t think there was any foul play. The man’s identity hasn’t been released but he’s reportedly in his late 40s.

Russellville Mini Storage offers drive-up and vehicle-storage spaces.
