Suspect in Gresham, OR, Self-Storage Murder Killed by Police

Update 4/5/22 – The man suspected of murdering Fowlkes at Money Saver Mini Storage was fatally shot by police on Thursday following a disturbance at a tow yard in Scappoose, Oregon. The shooting at Grumpy’s Towing happened just before 10 a.m., according to sources.

Police were called to 53279 Columbia River Highway after a fight occurred between employees of the business and the suspect, Michael Norton Stockton, 39. Stockton had two firearms, which he used to initiate a gun battle with an Oregon State trooper and Columbia County sheriff’s deputy, who returned fire, sources reported.

Neither of the officers were injured. They’ve been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, sources reported.

Stockton faced a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Fowlkes. Information about what led to the shooting at the self-storage facility haven’t been released.

In 2014, Stockton fired shots from his vehicle at a group of men outside Fortune Star Lounge in Portland. No one was injured. Stockton was convicted on two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and a single count of a felon in possession of a gun. He was sentenced to 60 months in state prison, with credit for time served, a source reported.

3/31/22 – A man was shot and killed on Sunday at a Gresham, Oregon, self-storage facility. Police were called to Money Saver Mini Storage just after 10 p.m., according to sources.

Timothy Fowlkes, 25, was found on the ground at 19215 N.E. Halsey St. He was shot once in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. His death has been ruled a homicide, sources reported.

The Gresham Police Department and the East Multnomah County Major Crimes Team are investigating the shooting. No other information was released.

Money Saver Mini Storage is managed by Storage Partners, which operates 29 facilities under various brand names in Oregon and Washington. The company is a privately held division of Investment Development Corp.
