Shooting Victim Found Dead After Crashing Into Chula Vista, CA, Self-Storage Facility

A man was found shot dead yesterday afternoon inside a Toyota Highlander that burst through the front gate of L Street Self Storage in Chula Vista, Calif. Witnesses told police the SUV was traveling northbound at a low speed on Industrial Boulevard when the driver slumped over the steering wheel and the car entered the storage property at a T intersection with Interstate 5. After the car broke through the gate, it continued across the facility grounds until it struck one of the buildings, according to Lt. Eric Thunberg.

The man was dead with a single gunshot wound to his head when officers arrived. Investigators are pursuing the case as a homicide. "We don't know where the shooter was; we don't know if it was car-to-car or a pedestrian that walked up; we don't know if it was a known subject or a stranger at this point," Thunberg told a source.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release the man’s identity after it concludes its autopsy.
