Man Found Shot at Joplin, MO, Self-Storage Facility

A man died after being shot at a Joplin, Mo., self-storage facility three weeks ago. Police were called to Westside Mini Storage on Dec. 18 about 12:15 p.m. The victim, Jonathan E. Powell, 36, was taken to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries, according to the source.

Police are seeking information from the public about a black 2005 or 2006 Nissan Altima 3.5L SE that was caught on security cameras arriving and leaving the storage facility at 1717 S. Roosevelt Ave. around the time of the shooting. The vehicle has five-spoke aluminum wheels, a rear-factory spoiler, chrome trim around the doors and windows, and tinted windows. Anyone with information should contact police at 417.623.3131, ext. 885, or e-mail [email protected].

This is the third self-storage shooting reported in recent weeks. A 64-year-old man was found shot to death last week at a Moorpark, Calif., facility. In mid-December, a man who is believed to have been living in a DeBary, Fla., self-storage unit allegedly shot and killed his childhood friend on the property.
