Man Arrested in 2-Unit Break-In of Washburn, IA, Self-Storage Facility

A man was arrested on Friday for allegedly breaking into two units at Washburn Self Storage in Washburn, Iowa. The theft was discovered when deputies with the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office spotted the suspect sitting in his parked vehicle at 2 a.m. near 7305 LaPorte Road, according to the source.

When deputies asked why the man was in the area, he gave them conflicting answers. During the interview, they noticed tools in his vehicle, including bolt-cutters and an air compressor. They also spotted two nearby storage units that were missing locks. Upon further investigation, they determined the footprints in front of one of spaces matched that of the driver’s shoes, the source reported.

Jeffrey Dean Goddard Jr., 40, was charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools. He also faces a charge of possession of methamphetamine after a pipe with residue was discovered in his pocket.
