A man was arrested this week for allegedly starting a fire inside the Louisville, Kentucky self-storage unit that he rented, then fleeing the property while his own leg was ablaze. The Sunday fire at A-1 Self-Storage happened at 3:45 a.m., according to sources.

The main building at 2133 Frankfort Ave. was destroyed. Nearby units were also damaged by smoke and water. It took 40 firefighters to extinguish the inferno.

Surveillance video from the facility shows Jeffrey Burton, 47, leaving his storage unit. Investigators determined the fire was deliberately set, and no one else was observed at the property at the time. No other injuries were reported.

Burton was arrested on Wednesday. The charges include arson, and wantonly causing destruction or damage to a building by intentionally starting a fire. Arson in the third degree is a Class-D felony.

A-1 Self Storage is locally owned by the Cunningham family, who also operate the adjacent business, Cunningham Door & Window.
