Catalytic Converter Thieves Thwarted at East Lansing, MI, Self-Storage Facility

Two thieves who were attempting to steal a catalytic converter from a vehicle at an East Lansing, Michigan, self-storage facility last week are both in police custody. The pair were apprehended following a car chase that ended when they crashed. They were cleared by hospital officials and taken to jail, according to the source.

Police were called to Abbott Road Mini-Storage on Friday just after midnight. When they confronted the suspects, a 31-year-old woman and 23-year-old man, the couple jumped into their vehicle. They then tried to run over the officers in the parking lot before fleeing the property at 16614 Chandler Road. A short police chase ensued but ended in front of the Ace Hardware on North East Street when the suspects’ vehicle crashed into the business’ wrought-iron fencing and overturned.

The accused were charged with carrying a concealed weapon, resisting and obstructing a police officer, possession of burglary tools, and receiving and concealing stolen property. The woman was also charged with fleeing and eluding police, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, and possession of methamphetamine.
