Animal-Cruelty Charges Filed After Bearded Dragons Found Abandoned Inside North Carolina Self-Storage Unit

Two women have been charged with animal cruelty after three bearded dragons were found abandoned last month inside a Winston-Salem, North Carolina, self-storage. The lizards were kept in a glass habitat, according to the source.

The reptiles were discovered on Dec. 23 by storage-facility employees, who were overlocking the unit after the tenant failed to make the monthly payment. The gate code associated with the rental hadn’t been used since late November, the source reported.

The animals were without food, water or a heat source. Though they were breathing, one died before it could be removed from the storage unit. All were missing toes and lethargic. The surviving lizards were emaciated and suffered from other health conditions, but are recovering, the source reported.

Taylor Brianne Moore, 25, and Jamie Lee Sartin, 24, each face a charge of animal cruelty.
