U-Haul Co. of Long Island has opened a new truck-rental store in Medford, N.Y., and plans to add a new self-storage building. Named U-Haul Moving and Storage of Medford, the property at 3118 North Service Road is north of Interstate 495 (Long Island Expressway), according to a company press release. It’s U-Haul’s first self-storage property in the city.
The 9.31-acre property contains one 12,696-square-foot building and a separate 1,950-square-foot masonry structure. It currently features a temporary showroom offering truck and trailer rentals, U-Box moving and storage containers, and the sale of moving and packing supplies. Plans are underway to add a third building with self-storage units as well as covered and uncovered vehicle-parking spaces.
The opening of the Medford store is being driven by U-Haul’s corporate sustainability initiatives, which support infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint, the press release stated. U-Haul’s adaptive reuse of existing structures eliminates the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps local cities diminish their unwanted inventory of unused buildings, U-Haul officials said.
Established in 1945, U-Haul International Inc. has more than 40 million square feet of storage space at more than 1,000 owned and managed facilities throughout North America.
