U-Haul Facility Expands Via Adjacent Self-Storage Property in West Lafayette, IN

Phoenix-based U-Haul International Inc., which operates more than 1,300 self-storage locations across North America, has purchased a storage property adjacent to its facility at 1090 Sagamore Parkway W. in West Lafayette, Ind.., with the goal of expanding its current operation. The former A+ Storage at 1058 Sagamore Parkway W. sits on 2.84 acres.

The acquisition will enable U-Haul to add 41,400 square feet of outdoor drive-up self-storage to U-Haul Moving & Storage of West Lafayette, which opened in 1977. A new building containing 650 storage units is also under construction and expected to open this fall, said Anthony Jones, president of the U-Haul Co. of Central Indiana.

In May, U-Haul received approval from the Anthem Community Council to double the footprint of its facility in Anthem, a master-planned community in North Phoenix. The expansion will be built on an empty 4-acre parcel at 42202 N. Vision Way, just north of the existing facility.

U-Haul announced a similar expansion for its facility in Mt. Juliet, Tenn., in April. The company purchased a 1.02-acre property adjacent to its existing site at 14535 Lebanon Road. The expansion will add 400 units as well as rent U-Box portable-storage containers. Construction is expected to be complete next spring.

Established in 1945, U-Haul owns more than 44 million square feet of storage space. The company’s corporate sustainability initiatives, which support infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint, has led to dozens of conversion projects in recent years.
